Thank you to third and fifth grade for being first with their grade level teaming notes!  Those have been added.

Sometimes the traditional homework isn't working, or there could be an alternative that is more effective and engaging. Here are some homework ideas:

Homework

There is a staff meeting after school. I want to focus on collaborative discussions in the classroom. This goes right along with common core speaking and listening standards. Please look at your grade level standards for the area of speaking and listening, as we will be referring to those. Khrista has resources from a recent class that relates to this and she will be sharing those as well.

With conferences coming up, please let Chris and I know if you would like us to attend a conference. Could be behavior, grades, or even to celebrate successes.

The Friday lunch with Dr. Seuss was so much fun. The best comment I heard was from a kindergarten student who said to the cat in the hat dressed visitor "I loved all your movies!" Thank you again to Nicole for organizing all the Dr. Seuss guest readers and activities. Please email any pictures you took during the week.

It is definitely a team effort with morning duty this week, and a big thank you to everybody who offered to help.

It is a very full week, but several fun activities. The big items to help remind students and families about would be the pastries with parents, yearbook money, and the talent show.

Here is a posting on the school website from Mrs. Enders'  class. I walked into the school Tuesday morning and hadn't even put my car keys away. Great example of common core standards.

Friday March 7th, 2014

The highlight on Friday will be the Dr. Seuss cake at lunch time and The Cat in the Hat visiting at that time. Thanks Nicole for helping to set that up! Thank you also to the kitchen for helping with the cake. Please remember patience with the lunch line, as even students with cold lunches will be in line for the cake. We have had a great week in the library with the guest readers.

Anne is gathering leadership jobs for students to apply for. Please let her know if you think of something. Today there were students greeting Linda and Lesa after going to Costco, eager and ready to help bring items in.

Then we had these young women helping fold the flyers for the pastries with parents activity. Future women leaders in the making! One day they will be folding applications for college, jobs, and leadership activities and positions at work.

The March Educational Leadership Journal is all about assessments, which is part of our school improvement plan this year. You'll notice some articles in your boxes. Here are 8 final thoughts from the recent issue to reflect upon:

One article also in the journal was about taking a lesson from restaurants, and applying it to schools. The article talked about an inviting school when people walk in, and we definitely have Anne to thank for that this year as our school looks much different. Displaying student grit is mentioned, and that reminded me of Marsha's new sign listing the recorder masters in fifth grade. It mentions informing families, and we have classroom blogs and our school website that have done that. Here is the article:
