Pictures from this last week include our October leaders of the month and fun Halloween activities. Every classroom had happy kids enjoying yummy treats and fun activities for Halloween. We also have great pictures of our preschool students enjoying their PE class. Their faces were priceless when they entered the gym and were exploring the big space. I really appreciate all the fun learning activities that our block teachers have provided for our preschool students:

Friday October 30th, 2020

We had a great Halloween yesterday. My favorite has to be a first grade student who was at the front window in the office happy and excited to be at school, as he announced that he was here for the party, at 7:50 am. We are on to Friday part 2. We have B group students today.

We start the morning with our monthly leadership assembly.

The new issue from Educational Leadership is all about early childhood education. Most of our staff members get to work with this important age group, starting with our three and four year old students. Covid has created a slight challenge to how we traditionally teach young children, but everybody has jumped in with creative ideas to ensure our littlest learners have a solid start to learning. Here is a short post that I think all of us can relate to:

Thursday October 29th, 2020

We have A group students today. I'm hearing people refer to today as Friday part one. Students get to complete learning first and then have light Halloween fun at the end of the day.

We will start the day with our October leadership assembly. We also have picture retakes today.

Honestly, we're all probably just grateful to have some at this point. Seems fitting with the Covid theme- Thought for today:

I've emailed and expressed in person multiple times- please spread out. Not just adults, but also students. It's going to be hard this week with guest teachers. We all have an important part in helping to keep ourselves and others healthy.

Here is a post about including the election topic in classrooms. This is a very polarized subject. We get the opportunity to assist students with understanding both sides, how to be respectful of diverse opinions, to develop critical thinking skills, and to express the importance of voting:

We all needed the positive experience. You might share the pictures with students so they can see their friends and siblings:

Wednesday October 14th, 2020

We start the orange plan today. It's going to feel different with fewer students in the building. Please help spread out students and update seating charts.

There are an assortment of new schedules to follow, like block/specials. If you have questions, please ask. For block, we are on week one of the schedule.

We start the morning with new faces. We have children of district staff in our building for child care. Please help them feel welcome.

We then have readers of the month being recognized during breakfast.

We end the day with a fun afternoon. We start the first session of sharpen the paw, for our B group students.

We then will have a staff meeting after school, via video. This will be a check in time, so bring any questions that you have.

This post includes a video that addresses using social stories online. We use books often with students, to help learn about important skills. You could use these tools both in person and online:

Social Skills with Online Learning

Resources for Social Skills- google drive resources with stories

And then there is the wondering about our youngest students. Preschool and primary grade teachers/staff did an awesome job last spring as they led google meet check in opportunities. Here are a few tips:

Everybody has worked really hard to provide meaningful interventions for students. We have had to teach differently this year. This has included more differentiation within a classroom, instead of going to another classroom. The article below might have an idea that catches your eye:
