A big thank you to everybody for assisting with an awesome carnival. We had many happy, smiling children.

We have one last post with pictures. We have carnival pictures, sharpen the paw, second grade swimming field trip, May leaders of the month, Canyon Ridge HS graduates, pinatas from South Hills MS, and Mrs. Dickinson giving away all the teddy bears she has collected and used with music classes over the last several years:

Today is the last day of school. Thank you for all your hard work this year and all that you have done to assist students with their learning. Have a great summer break sharpening the saw with your friends and family. Please remember to email me a picture for our staff welcome back August video.

On to summer:

Wednesday May 22nd, 2019

Student lighthouse has their end of the year pizza lunch today.

The big event today is the end of the year carnival, 12:45-2:45. Rain is not going to spoil the fun. Almost everything can be inside. All of the kindergarten students attend in the afternoon. If you are looking for a spot to help, there are many kinders that would love to be your friend. Please let the office know if you need help with anything.

Please help remind students and families that dismissal is at 12:45 tomorrow.

Thought for today and very true as we end the school year:

Tuesday May 21st, 2019

We start the morning with our last monthly Leadership Assembly. The student lighthouse team has done an awesome job leading this year.

We then have our last Sharpen the Paw, in the morning. We need to move/change a few outside activities due to the weather so everything is inside. Please talk with students about this so they know where to go and they could even write the changes right on their individual tickets. We will also announce on the intercom prior to starting. I added room numbers/locations to assist:

Sharpen the Paw

We have a yummy nacho bar for lunch to celebrate Summer staff birthdays. Thank you to fourth grade and preschool for hosting.

In the afternoon, second grade students will be attending their swimming field trip and third grade students will be attending their skating field trip.

We know that many of our students will be moving over the summer, our fifth grade students will be transitioning to middle school, and our returning students are already discussing how they will miss school over the summer. We always end the year with fun activities for every student. Both staff and students have worked very hard this school year. Thank you for helping to ensure that every student ends the year on a positive note.

Pictures this week include the annual Spring play. A big thank you to the staff that have led that activity and provided a great opportunity for students. Pictures this week also include the annual fifth grade careers on wheels event.

We have pictures from the annual end of the year school picnic. Mrs. Turpin and her two awesome paras planned a fun activity that allowed students to share how they use chop sticks in their home. Students enjoyed eating with chop sticks in a safe and inclusive environment that allowed students to shine as they shared a cultural experience with peers.

We also have great pictures from our new staff room. We remodeled with new furniture and Olive Garden donated a yummy lunch. We have more seating now and I loved seeing staff all squished in together enjoying lunch as they sharpened the saw with their friends:

I love this article. ASCD this month is all about teens. When we look at concerns, however, it often starts in the primary grades. The articles about teens are very much relevant for elementary.  This article is a great example of how college isn't for every kid, but, we need to find that which is their strength. Every student has a gift, a strength, interests, something. Technical programs are just as important as a traditional college route, and never giving up on kids is crucial. Relevance and relationships, valued and welcomed at school, differences seen as strengths:
