We have holiday art from library classes and an awesome picture from preschool that shows three year old students decorating their Christmas tree.

Students are continuing to donate items for the annual food drive and there are great pictures of students synergizing during counseling lessons:

SEL With Students

We have pictures from first grade, as well as a presentation about healthy habits with our upper grade students. We also had almost 400 pumpkins donated from Chobani and a community neighborhood garden. Pumpkins are higher prices this year at supermarkets, so the donations were greatly appreciated. It was awesome watching students practice critical thinking skills and synergy as they figured out how to get the pumpkins home. Every student preschool-fifth grade received a free pumpkin to take home:

We have our first pictures to share. We love and need to see the pictures. They remind us of our end goal, the students- instead of all the crazy sauce.

We love our preschool students. We have two pictures that show students practicing math skills that include identifying shapes and learning spatial awareness. These two students started the new school year by now independently completing these tasks.

We really appreciate South Central Public Health. They received a grant that allowed them to give back to our community. They painted an awesome hop scotch that I see students using during every recess. It is beautiful and inviting. They are going to also paint a four square for our older students.

We also have pictures of readers in first grade. Reading is our big rock and WIG. We started learning skills on the first day of school and students are working hard to master foundational skills.

All of our students are engaged with online learning, via clever and Google classroom, starting in kindergarten. This has made learning at home easier this year, as absences have occurred, as well as when staff are out and guest teachers can continue teaching with the online resources. We have pictures of students practicing math skills online with their chromebooks.

We also have pictures of our January readers of the month. Feel free to share all of the pictures with students. They love seeing their friends and family members.

Christmas Party List

We have awesome pictures to share. We are wrapping up the second quarter. That means assessments, leadership notebooks, report cards, and reflection. We have a great picture of two young ladies from kindergarten. They were so excited to see the progress in their leadership notebooks.

We have pictures of students adding food around the Christmas tree. Several of our families benefit from our school pantry. Students love contributing to the food drive, even just one item. We want all of our students to experience giving during the holiday season. That often occurs from staff bringing in items, so every student has something to add to the tree.

We love recognizing our monthly readers of the month. Students love picking out a free book to take home and read with their family. We use Title 1 family involvement money to purchase the books and this activity fits perfectly.  We want our students to love reading, especially with their family.

The last pictures include Friday fun and preparing for the all school virtual holiday concert. We love to sharpen the saw at Harrison:

Khatewoda- Habit 5- Seek first to understand, then to be understood

Next week: Kelly- Habit 6- Synergize

We have pictures from the Friday fun activity that had students dressing up as their future career and the monthly readers of the month recognition. There are pictures from kindergarten students learning about Veteran's Day and how to be respectful with the flag during music class.

Students in the ERC classroom are included with classroom activities daily. Students invited peers to visit their ERC classroom. This is always a great inclusion activity. Students had an opportunity to work with diverse groups, practice leadership skills, and complete a fun food and art activity:

Here are a few posts that are great resources. There should be an area of interest for everybody.

Classroom management idea- ask 3 before me- with a short video that you could share with students.

Executive functioning skills- This is a great eye opener. We can all relate. Several students are struggling with how to function in a classroom. Simple tasks that we assume students should be able to accomplish, like perseverance and attending to a task for a certain amount of time, is actually quite challenging. As students are now back in the classroom with a larger group of peers, we are needing to teach these essential skills. While the article focuses on technology to assist, the list of essential skills is a great reminder of key items to assist students with developing.

Strategies for second language students- the strategies would also be great for students with limited language and those with language services on IEP's.

Stress calming strategies- great ideas for staff

Pictures from the last couple of weeks show math learning in first grade and learning to read in kindergarten. There is a picture from the public library visiting preschool and students choosing to get their homework done while they wait for late buses after school.

We want students to love reading, to read independently. We definitely see that with our kinders after school. While it's not pleasant waiting for the bus due to being short drivers, books make the time go by quickly. We also had a great Boys activity this week. Families were great about spreading out. We had legos on the lawn, yummy stem creation treats, lego art, a family picture, and more. Here are pictures from this last week:

We have several awesome pictures from the first four weeks of school. These pictures would be great to share with students and families. You can click on the pictures to view them in a larger size. Students love seeing siblings and friends. You can also discuss the pictures, emphasizing items we focus on at our school. The pictures also remind us of our why. We end the day exhausted, but happy kids remind us of why we show up everyday. We are seed planters and we get to assist students with learning positive habits.

We have pictures of student leaders, readers of the month, the school garden, writers, students finding their voice, learning about math tools, leadership notebooks, morning announcements, and happy kids. Waiting for late buses is definitely not fun, but we love our safety patrol leaders and putting first things first with reading and homework. Our students and staff are very comfortable with video meetings as well. The pictures also illustrate inclusion and ensuring all of our students have opportunities to find their voice.
