While we don't have pictures of Thanksgiving lunch, we completely forgot and instead enjoyed the awesome turn out of families, we do have a picture of employees from Rivercrest Apartments helping to serve the meal. They are always so kind to assist every year and our kids love seeing people they know. Those apartments are in our school zone and I love how the employees give back to our kids every year by giving of their time.

We also don't have pictures from Friday, but we gave out 25 Thanksgiving dinner boxes due to a very generous family and donations. Families were very appreciative and faces were so happy as they saw what was being given to their family.

We do have pictures of students learning. Fourth grade has been working hard to increase student academic skills. There is a great picture of hashtag ISAT, as students are practicing skills. There are also great pictures from kindergarten. We start literacy skills with our three year olds. We expect our kinders to be writers and the student samples are great to read.

We have great pictures of kindergarten students sampling different pies. Not all of our families have experienced Thanksgiving and every family includes different food items at their meal. I grew up eating lasagna and focaccia with holiday meals, with a side of meat. Kinders got to taste yummy pies.

We have a great picture of student lighthouse team members updating lead measures for our school wide WIG. It's their data and their learning.

I love the picture of the young lady who saw a disaster with lost and found and chose to jump right in and make a plan. She saw a need and fixed the problem. I was super proud of her.

All of our grade levels have a bulletin board to celebrate student successes and progress towards increasing reading scores. We have a picture from fourth grade that recognizes their hard work.

I love this post. We hear about Giving Tuesday, but maybe not from the perspective of a child. We need kids to develop empathy and be involved with service, giving to others. The four important areas for every student include academics, playing, working, and giving back with service to others. Lack of empathy can be an indicator of potential future involvement with the juvenile system. Giving Tuesday can be anytime of the year. Many of our kids may not have a lot to give, but giving doesn't always have to involve money:

Hard to believe that the holiday season is just around the corner. With that comes family activities that may be challenging or overwhelming. It reminds me of my family trying that family reunion thing last summer for the first time. I was out of the country and happily enjoyed all the pictures instead. My aunt sent an email reminding those attending that politics were not to be discussed, so everybody stayed happy. Here are a few tips for boundaries:

Pictures this week include our monthly Breakfast with Books and our Fall Title 1 family night. It's really nice to offer both options, before school and evening. Great turn outs at both activities. We should have had activities for 2-4 year olds, several attended. We call that job security. We can definitely say both activities were family activities, with several preschool and secondary students.

There is also a great picture of three young ladies figuring out the percentage for our monthly progress towards our school wide goal of increasing reading scores. We need students to be owning and driving their learning.

There are great pictures of student lighthouse students giving a tour. I met with them to discuss a grant. The ladies made a list of items to highlight, practiced during recesses, and they did an awesome job speaking and answering questions during the tour.

Mystery Science, positive check ins with staff, getting ready for Thanksgiving lunch, and more:

This article fits perfectly with what we discuss often with our teachers. Teachers should not be the hardest workers in the classroom. Students need to be owning and leading their own learning:
