We have a Friday fun mismatch activity today, as well as a caramel sucker sale with student leaders.

As we head into the weekend, these are two articles that are nice reminders about self care. There might be an idea you could try over the next week. It doesn't have to be something fancy, instead, simply taking time for yourself. This blog is from Joann's and the Kids in Need Foundation:

We start the day with our monthly leadership assembly, via video. It can seem overwhelming right now, but we have much to celebrate and recognize. This assembly will recognize both staff and students that we are super proud of, as well as giving our student lighthouse team an opportunity to lead and find their voice.

We're trying really hard to assist our students with making safe and appropriate choices online. Social media isn't always good. This post is a great resource that might have links that fit with your lesson plans. You could save the blog link and check during the year to see if any student reports fit with what you are teaching. Students would also see how the internet can be used in a positive and appropriate manner. The student reports also expose students to diverse perspectives, including learning about other cultures. These are student reporters from Scholastic:

The weather is changing. Please help remind students to wear warmer clothing.

We want students to love reading, to read independently. We definitely see that with our kinders after school. While it's not pleasant waiting for the bus due to being short drivers, books make the time go by quickly. We also had a great Boys activity this week. Families were great about spreading out. We had legos on the lawn, yummy stem creation treats, lego art, a family picture, and more. Here are pictures from this last week:

Thursday September 23rd, 2021

We have our first family event today. It is for the boys, from 5:30-6:30 pm. We will be outside. Activities will be spread out and families will be encouraged to be mindful of space around others. We will have masks available as well.

It will be a fun assortment of activities and the theme is Legos, a STEM focus. While the boys are encouraged to bring their favorite gal, like mom or grandma, we definitely welcome whomever is able to attend. We've had questions, from single dads to two dad homes. All are welcome. Please help remind our boys. Every family will go home with a family photo. That is always one of the favorite activities during this event.

The girls are a bit miffed. You can remind them that their event is in February.

As we often say, we're either crying or laughing at our school. Thought for today:

We have a staff meeting after school. We will hear the annual federal programs presentation. While it is required for certified staff, classified staff are welcome to join. It is via video and the information is helpful for understanding the different programs and services that are available for students.

It's important to remember to find some time during the day to pause and breathe. Yes, it is hard to find the time. Even just a few minutes is helpful. We have a nice walking path outside that you could walk on for a few minutes during a break. We also have exercise cards that were purchased to use with the walking path.

This is a great article to save. You could try some of these calming yoga poses by yourself as you take a few minutes during the day for yourself, with a colleague, or you could even try a few of these with students that you work with. We also have yoga mats that you could use in one of the flex rooms during your break:

Thursday September 16th, 2021

We have children from 3 years old to fifth grade. While this post is intended for our younger students, like preschool and kindergarten, all of our students need reminders about washing their hands. Please continue to remind students about the importance of washing their hands, often.

Hand Washing

We see potential in all of our children and staff. Sometimes we need friends to help remind us of our strengths and value, for both children and staff. That's important to remember and what we love about our staff. Thank you for ensuring that everybody feels noticed and of value. Thought for today:

This post is very relevant. Starting the day with positive intentions and actions can significantly assist with ensuring that the school day continues on a positive note. We all play a part. Something as simple as greeting a student and acknowledging them can shift the start of a school day. Consistent procedures and expectations are also important. Some ideas:

We have several awesome pictures from the first four weeks of school. These pictures would be great to share with students and families. You can click on the pictures to view them in a larger size. Students love seeing siblings and friends. You can also discuss the pictures, emphasizing items we focus on at our school. The pictures also remind us of our why. We end the day exhausted, but happy kids remind us of why we show up everyday. We are seed planters and we get to assist students with learning positive habits.

We have pictures of student leaders, readers of the month, the school garden, writers, students finding their voice, learning about math tools, leadership notebooks, morning announcements, and happy kids. Waiting for late buses is definitely not fun, but we love our safety patrol leaders and putting first things first with reading and homework. Our students and staff are very comfortable with video meetings as well. The pictures also illustrate inclusion and ensuring all of our students have opportunities to find their voice.

We have our first Friday fun today. Every grade level has a different color to wear. If somebody doesn't have a certain color, we can always help find a sticker or cut something out of colored construction paper. Homemade is always the best and we want every student to be included. We also have student leaders selling air head candies for .50 cents.

Please help remind students that student lighthouse applications are due on Monday.

We have a check in first thing in the morning with our new certified staff. As we have a younger staff, several don't know anything different than teaching during a pandemic. Having an opportunity just to talk and check in with others in a similar situation is important. You aren't crazy. This isn't normal.

Please help remind students and families that tomorrow is an early dismissal day at 12:45.
