For the common core writing standards, the first anchor standard is about argument writing. This is a big shift, as students need to be providing written evidence to support their claims. This is a real life skill that is really important in future careers. This is a short article geared towards middle school, but it shows what your students are working towards. In grades k-5, students are writing opinion pieces, narratives, and informative/explanatory texts. Those skills are leading them towards argument writing when they get to middle school.

21st Century Community Learning Centers

We have been knee deep in assessments, from the IELA to IRI to ISAT Science to the SBAC. Thank  you to Ana, MaryAnn, and Lesa for leading those assessments. The SBAC has been going well. I am a scribe for a third grade student who has difficulty typing. As we completed the first questions on Tuesday, he said several times how he knew what to do because Mrs. Long had showed him. Thank you ladies for the great work!
