Please remember that Tyler is coming on Wednesday. This is a perfect opportunity to check in about assessments in schoolnet, iPad questions, blended learning centers, or any other technology questions that you have. If you have a specific time you are interested in on Wednesday, you can email him.

Please also remember to sign up on the sheets asking where you went to college.

We are on to March! Just three months of school left.

Great job to all to everybody who presented powerpoints and information at the staff meeting! Not only are we developing leaders in our students, but also with our staff.

We have a sign up sheet by the office for where staff attended college. This is not necessarily where you graduated, but even if you attended for a shorter amount of time. We are working on a project, and we would like all staff to be involved. This includes all para-professionals, kitchen, and support staff.

Wednesday February 26th, 2014

Please remember the staff meeting after school. Please come prepared to take notes. You might bring your iPad for the note taking.

One item on the agenda is the fifth grade teachers doing a share and tell. They will be sharing a powerpoint about digital media. Not only will this assist with knowing the academic vocabulary when you are using digital text with students, but it will also provide information to you the teacher so you know what to look for when using digital resources.

The second item will be an update from the Lighthouse Team. They will be sharing a powerpoint Anne made from their recent visit to Carey, and what that school does for the Leader in Me program.

You may have noticed school reader boards around town with capacity and enrollment numbers. We are enrolling new students every week, so the exact number goes up and down a few. Here are the numbers for Harrison. We welcome every student with a smiling face as they enter, and are creative as we find room for them in our classrooms:

capacity: 528
enrollment K-5: 555
enrollment pre/k: 90-100

Here is a new post on the school website. Thanks Lark and Bev for the picture! Third graders have been learning about adjectives, and we are always looking for opportunities to share information about common core standards with families and the community. Please email if you have anything you would like posted on the school website from your classroom.

Geo-literacy is word that people may not have heard of, but it includes concepts that we discuss with students everyday. From habitats, to understanding our communities, to watching videos about cultures around the world. Geo-literacy is about interactions, interconnections, and implications. This link has two short videos that briefly explain how this term is very important for students as a 21st Century skill.  It also goes right along with common core standards and the big shifts for ELA and Math.

Geo-Literacy

As students are developing speaking and listening skills with the new speaking and listening standards, projects go right along with that. Third grade recently did U.S. Presidents. Here is a link with a rubric for speaking and listening skills. Rubrics are a great tool for assessment with instruction. The link has a rubric for both younger grades and older grades.

Here is a fun link with music apps for your iPad.

Friday is the PTA cotton candy sale. Please remind students about not littering. We want them to be proactive and help keep our school looking nice, and not create extra work for the custodians.

Here are three pictures of PTA making the cotton candy today. Thanks Robin for the pictures!
