As writing is one of our building goals, here is a nice positive story about a young man from Idaho who became an author in an usual way.

The big event today is IRI/Istation testing. Thank you for helping to keep hallways quiet. It's a balance of classroom doors open for ventilation and a quiet testing environment.

And like that, four months of school left. On to February.
There are different ALICE scenarios. We are practicing one this afternoon. People are nervous, yes, remember- It is a practice opportunity.
As we have a younger staff, we have several working on classroom management. Whether a teacher, para, or a support staff in some way- here are a few ideas:

We have a staff meeting after school. Certified staff will be sharing examples of Thinking Maps. This will be a great meeting for sharing and learning. We start writing with our preschool students, so we will also get to see examples of writing names and beginning writing.

We have spring pictures today.
We're trying to keep normalcy for our kids. Classrooms feel different. We have fewer students attending in person. Friends are completing lessons online. Staff are absent. Students notice that. Thank you for spending just a few minutes to check in with a student. Reassuring words and feeling noticed are huge right now.

We have a few pictures from the last couple of weeks. We are really trying to encourage reading and increase reading skills. This matches our building WIG. We have pictures of readers in first grade. Even with inside recesses, students love to grab a book and read.
All of our students are engaged with online learning, via clever and Google classroom, starting in kindergarten. This has made learning at home easier this year, as absences have occurred, as well as when staff are out and guest teachers can continue teaching with the online resources. We have pictures of students practicing math skills online with their chromebooks.
We also have pictures of our January readers of the month. Feel free to share all of the pictures with students. They love seeing their friends and family members.
